Buy Longhorn
Longhorn cattle are a remarkable breed known for their distinct and striking long horns that set them apart from other cattle breeds. This American breed has a rich history, with its roots tracing back to the cattle brought to the Americas by Spanish conquistadores from the Iberian Peninsula during the time of the Second Voyage of Christopher Columbus until about 1512. Over the centuries, these long horned cattle have become an iconic symbol of Texas and its ranching heritage.
The Texas Longhorn is primarily utilized for beef production and is sought after for its unique and diverse color combinations, which vary greatly among individuals. These cattle have a slower maturation rate than other breeds, reaching their maximum weight of 800 to 1,500 pounds in approximately eight to ten years. Despite this slower growth, the Longhorn’s reproductive capabilities outshine many other cattle breeds, with a reproductive period that is nearly twice as long as others.
To effectively manage a sheep farm, farmers must construct necessary infrastructure such as fences, housing, shearing sheds, and facilities for water supply, feed storage, transportation, and pest control. The majority of farms are designed to allow sheep to graze on pastures, often under the supervision of a shepherd or using trained sheepdogs.
